2009 Annual Conference CALL FOR PAPERS
This call, by NASW-VA’s Annual Conference Committee, is to solicit proposals for presentations at our statewide continuing education conference. The conference, "Restoring and Transforming Our Professional Spirit," will be held on March 13 & 14, 2009 at the Omni Hotel in Richmond, VA. As a presenter, you will:
- Share your knowledge and experience with your colleagues through a 1 ½ or 3 hour presentation
- Receive maximum exposure by presenting at the statewide conference
- Engage and enlighten social workers
- Earn category II continuing education contact hours for Virginia.
Presenting at the Annual Conference serves as a first step to becoming an approved provider for the NASW-VA’s Continuing Education Program. Upon successful completion of the Annual Conference presentation, you will be added to our growing list of “approved instructors” who are eligible to provide CE workshops around the state.
All topics are welcome. In addition to clinical workshop proposals, NASW-VA is interested in proposals for private practice, non-clinical, or administration-focused workshops. Please design your presentation as a skills building workshop for either intermediate or advanced audiences. Intermediate workshops are geared toward participants who have done work related to social work issues for at least two years, who have good working knowledge of these issues and who are seeking to improve intervention, advocacy or management skills and practices. Advanced workshops are geared toward participants who have done work related to social work issues for at least five years, who had comprehensive knowledge of these issues, and who are seeking to further develop intervention, advocacy or management skills and practice.
Please note that the deadline for submission of papers is September 22, 2008. All proposals must be postmarked on or before this date in order to be considered.
The “Grandfather of Social Work Ethics," Frederic Reamer, Ph.D., will present an Ethics workshop for NASWVA on Friday, October 17, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Richmond West. (6.0 Cat. I contact hours, meets ethics requirement for Virginia licensure renewal) Dr. Reamer has lectured extensively nationally and internationally on the subjects of professional ethics and professional malpractice and liability. He chaired the national task force that wrote the current Code of Ethics adopted by the National Association of Social Workers. Dr. Reamer, a faculty member in the School of Social Work at Rhode Island College, is the author of 16 books including several books specifically about the ethical dilemmas that social workers face.
