Description
This NASW-VA sponsored, comprehensive 14-hour workshop addresses the most critical issues for the clinical supervisor in social work. Key concepts covered include models of supervision, individual versus group supervision, professional conduct and ethical issues in supervision, parallel process and leadership. In addition, current research looking at supervision is presented.
Through presentation, large group and small group discussions, the following aspects of supervision will be explored in this training:
1. The purpose, role, and functions of supervision;
2. Theories and models of supervision;
3. Oversight and guidance of supervisees who diagnose, create treatment plans, and treat clients;
4. Individual and group supervision facilitation;
5. Parallel process and the importance of modeling strengths-based principles in supervision;
7. Ethical issues that arise in supervision;
8. Cross-cultural supervision practices;
9. A review of recent literature regarding the practice of supervision in social work.

Note: NASW-VA members who complete this training will be eligible (if desired) to be placed in NASW-VA's database as a Clinical Supervisor who is available to provide clinical supervision towards licensure to other social workers. This database is made available to NASW-VA members, through our website.
Attendees will earn 14.0 Category I Contact hours, including 2.0 Category I Contact Hours of Ethics.
*Please note that this certification course satisfies the new requirements for Supervisors, under the Board of Social Work and Regulations effective Nov 2008.
